April 1, 2021Gold Dominion by Steve Doherty – Going for the Gold
July 24, 2021In 1943, General George C. Marshall, the U.S. Army chief of staff, wanted a fifth element of Allied agents wreaking havoc behind Japanese lines in the China, Burma, and India (CBI) Theater of Operations. In the novel Call for Blood, Jon Preston and his team of Allied agents are set loose in the CBI. They begin by committing acts of sabotage to hinder the Japanese war effort and hunt down enemy agents. Towards the end of the war, Preston’s team concentrates on rescuing Allied POWs. The POWs are the test subjects in a covert biological and chemical warfare research program conducted by Unit 731 of the Imperial Japanese Imperial Army.
Thriller fans will relish in danger as the Allied agents traverse a deadly landscape behind Japanese lines, parachuting into enemy territory and dodging Japanese patrols and assassins out to stop them. The novel is based, in part, on the true story and the covert activities of an American Army counterintelligence agent, Jonathan Preston, and his ‘special mission’ team of George Linka, Miles Murphy, and Henri Morreau, who take the battle directly to the Japanese.
There is no lack of action when these agents plan and execute high-risk operations to free hundreds of Allied prisoners of war. Tension builds as the agents raid Japanese prison camps where Allied prisoners are being systematically exterminated by an illegal biological and chemical research program conducted by a highly secret Japanese Army organization. It’s a captivating war story with a cliffhanger ending that will leave the readers ready for the next battle.
